Basic Commands
The commands sit, down, come, stay and heel are the tools by which we control our dog's behavior and teach them how we prefer them to behave in each situations. Each household will have different expectations of their dog. Some prefer the dog to stay on their bed when indoors, others allow the dog to wander about the house while still others prefer to give the dog free reign even allowing them on the furniture. When your dog comes home from training camp we will help you incorporate your dog back into your home by showing you how to use the basic commands to control their behavior. Initially, your dog may need to have it's freedom in the house restricted while it learns the new rules. All dogs will begin off-leash training while at camp but as all dogs have individual learning rates not all dogs will be fully reliable off leash when they return home.
Field Trips
Field trips to the dog park, outdoor malls, pet stores and patio restaurants are included with our full month program. Field trips are designed to both enrich your dog's stay here and to give your dog the opportunity to practice basic commands under a variety of distractions.
Follow-up lessons
When you pick up your dog from training camp you will be given a demonstration of the behaviors your dog has learned as well as a lesson on how to incorporate your dog back into your home. For each week your dog attends camp, an additional in-home follow-up lesson will be included. It is very important that you schedule these lessons as soon as possible after your dog returns home in order to maintain their level of proficiency.
Potty Training
Potty training is an on-going process. The time it takes to fully potty train a dog varies with the individual dog and it's living situation. In-board training camp is not designed to potty train dogs, however, all dogs will be crate trained and taught to go outdoors on a schedule. We will be happy to help you continue the progress we have made with your dog when it returns home. Please let us know if you prefer your dog be taught to potty on pads or in a litter box (for toy breeds only).
Visitation
While we understand that you will miss your dog while it is away from home, we do not allow visits during the time your dog is enrolled in training camp. We find it is very stressful for the dog and disrupts it's training process. We do encourage you to visit us prior to enrolling your dog and will happily email you updates and pictures during it's stay with us.
Prerequisites
Space is very limited, so make your reservations early. In order to be eligible for Boarding School, dogs must be current on vaccines and on monthly flea control. No dogs with any aggression issues will be taken in Boarding School without special admissions. Extra fees apply for dog with aggression issues.
Food
We do ask that you supply your dog's food in order to minimize stress on it's digestive tract. We are happy to continue to feed any supplements, medications or meal time additives at your request. If you feed raw, we will be happy to continue to do so but have limited freezer space so please make arrangements in advance.
Grooming
Each dog will be bathed weekly at no charge and receive a bath prior to going home. For long coated dogs or dogs requiring full grooming we will be happy to make arrangements to have your dog groomed prior to returning home. Prices will vary with size of dog and style of cut.
